Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis Presenting as Recurrent Mass-like Consolidation

چکیده
Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is a hypersensitive disease showing various radiographic and clinical manifestations. Its clinical course has not been fully understood. Here I describe a case of a 23-year-old immunocompetent man with frequently relapsing ABPA. He was asthmatic. He visited our hospital because of a chronic cough. Laboratory examination showed eosinophilia with increased total and Aspergillus-specific IgE as well as positive skin reaction to Aspergillus fumigatus. Radiologic feature was a dense consolidation. Histology showed organizing pneumonia with eosinophilic infiltration. On the diagnosis of ABPA, he was treated with systemic steroid and itraconazole. Although treatment response was excellent, he suffered from recurrent ABPA three times thereafter in the form of fleeting mass-like consolidation.

Fever and multilobular mass of the right lung in a young adult with asthma
We report a case of a 37-year-old mild asthmatic male presenting with fever, productive cough and chest pain. The chest x-ray showed a multilobular perihilar shadow of the right lung with a mass-like appearance, confirmed by the CT-scan. He was diagnosed with allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA). ABPA usually manifests as chronic asthma, recurrent pulmonary infiltrates and bronchiecta...

Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is infrequently documented in children with asthma. Although collapse is not uncommon, middle lobe syndrome (MLS) as a presentation of ABPA is rather a rarity. A 9-year-old female child with asthma presented with increase in intensity of symptoms along with a right midzone patchy consolidation on a chest radiograph. In addition, an ill-defined opac...
متن کاملAllergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis masquerading as recurrent bacterial pneumonia
Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis (ABPA) can be diagnosed in an asthmatic with suitable radiologic and immunological features. However ABPA is likely to be misdiagnosed with bacterial pneumonia. Here we report a case of ABPA masquerading as recurrent bacterial pneumonia. Treatment with high-dose inhaled corticosteroids was effective. To our best knowledge, this is the first reported case ...
متن کاملAllergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis presenting with a pulmonary mass mimicking lung cancer
A 48-year-old man with a history of asthma visited our hospital for the investigation of a high density mass at the right hilum. Laboratory data revealed elevated serum carcinoembryonic antigen. A bronchoscopy was performed to rule out lung cancer; however, mucoid impaction was found without malignant or bacterial cells. On the basis of peripheral blood eosinophilia, elevated total serum IgE, a...

Bronchopulmonary foregut malformations are a heterogeneous but interrelated group of abnormalities that may contain more than one histologic feature. Familiarity with the presentation and imaging features of bronchopulmonary foregut malformations presenting as a congenital mass or mass-like lesion is important. Moreover, imaging plays a central role in the evaluation of these lesions since, whe...
